Anyone have a good method for asset tracking with food?

Basically has anyone with been involved with a restaurant and come up with an idea to track food. Basically I have a customer who needs help with food safety/bad ingredients and being able to see what batch was bad instead of throwing out an entire warehouse of food.

Not sure if this is even feasible to be honest but was just curious if anyone has done anything like this.
