Cultural appropriation (I know, again)

So I’m writing a novel that’s set in a modern world of perennial winter where one of the main characters is a classic flamboyant 80s glam rocker type. He’s not white, but not a Muslim or SWANA either. I wanted to introduce him in a way that made his flamboyance easily visible, and his clothes would include a brightly patterned scarf covering his head, to show he’s particular about ruining his hair and that he likes ostentatious fabrics. It may not even be the last time he wears it.

To be clear: the design I had in mind isn’t inspired by Muslim cultural garment, more by this kind of attire. For what little I know about proper hijab it’s meant to show the hair, which this decidedly does.

But at the same time I can’t help but wonder… Will I just end up giving hives to Muslim and SWANA people if I do this? Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?
