I have been looking at "smart power strips" where you can individually controller each outlet. One trend I have seen is that they are designed to constantly poll an external server for commands, to avoid home firewalls and the need for port forwarding, etc. My main issues with this are 1) relying on a third party for the device to work, 2) security implications. Is anyone aware of a device that does not work this way?
Smart power ***** that does not poll 3rd party server?
