Student Organization

Students can be involved in a student organization, developing leadership skills, participating in community service, planning campus events, and joining a Greek organization. It helps students to engage in the co-curricular as well as extra-curricular experiences to enhance their experience at Wichita State. The purpose of the essay is to take the student through the process of writing a constitution to start a new organization for a selected technology program. The organization will be a brainchild of students but will have a faculty member as an adviser. The name of the organization is ‘Tech Gurus Student Organization (TGSO)’ that aims at offering technology-related solutions. The constitution that will guide the mode of operations in the organization is as shown in the subsequent sections.

RSO Constitution

Article I: ORGANIZATION NAME

The name of the organization shall be Tech Gurus Student Organization (TGSO).

Article II: PURPOSE STATEMENT

It shall be the purpose of Tech Gurus Student Organization to offer technology related solutions both to students and different departments within Wichita State University and enhance technology adoption in the major areas of student engagement with the university administration.

Article III: NON-HAZING STATEMENT

The organization is determined not to engage in any hazing activity or to an extent commit acts that endanger health and safety of an individual or subject them to dangerous tasks in their quest for affiliation or admission to the organization. The stated acts are regarded hazing despite the willingness of individuals to engage in them. The organization will adhere to all the university policies on hazing as well as the Wichita State University Student Code of Conduct and Kansas Hazing Law Statute 21-3434.

Article IV: MEMBERSHIP AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

8.10 Statement of Nondiscrimination in Educational Programs and Activities. It is the policy of Wichita State University to hinder discrimination in educational programs and activities by race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, ****** orientation, gender, identity, marital status, political affiliation, status as a veteran, genetic information or disability.

Section A: Membership is open to all the enrolled WSU students who:

    1. Are currently undertaking Technology and Engineering courses

    2. Are interested in gaining skills in technology related applications in solving problems.

Section B: Membership is open to any none-WSU student who: (50 % membership has to be current WSU students)  

    1. is passionate about providing solutions to the society using technology. 

    2.  Is an alumnus who intends to offer the needed assistance in running the organization.  

Section C: Dues and collection procedures

    1. The fiscal year shall run from 1st of July the current year to 30th of June in the subsequent year.     

    2. Some annual dues shall be determined every year by the members.

    3. The dues shall not exceed $25 per academic year.

    4. The disbursement of dues shall not have a basis on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, ****** orientation, gender identity, marital status, political affiliation, veteran status, genetic information or disability.

Section D: A member, is liable for removal:

    1. If the organization and its members agree in unison that the individual does not adhere to the city, state, and federal laws as well as the Student Code of Conduct, University Policies, and Student Government Association Guidelines.

    2. If he/she engages in activities that threaten the progress of the activities of the organization by malice.

Section E: Removal of membership procedures:

              1. Any member who engaged in the activities mentioned above will be deemed non-members upon the revocation of his/her membership through a vote of at minimum two-thirds (2/3) majority of the executive board. Upon revocation of membership status, the individual can appeal, and the said member can be reinstated with a 2/3 approval by the general members.

Article V: OFFICERS

Section A: The Tech Gurus Student Organization shall have a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and an advisor. The senior officers of the organization will be the President and the Vice President.

Section B: All the officers ought to be registered members of Tech Gurus Student Organization and currently enrolled at Wichita State University.

Section C: The advisor must be a full-time permanent employee of a faculty or a member of staff at Wichita State University.

Section D: The term of office shall be from January 1st to November 30th in the same year. 

Section E: Election of officers shall be held annually before the expiry of the current term in office two weeks before November 30th to allow time for transition.  Two weeks’ notice shall be given before the election date and nominations shall be done by ballot upon which the person getting the majority votes will be elected.

Section F: Any officer may be removed from membership using the 2/3 vote majority of the Executive Board. The officer removed from office can appeal to the general membership and will be reinstated through 2/3 approval of the members.

Section G: Any vacancy that arises in the office shall be filled by appointment by the President later approved by the members’ at the next meeting.

Article VI: DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Section A: The President

    1. Shall be the chief executive officer

    2. Shall appoint chairpersons to various committee upon approval by the board members

    3. Shall direct the budget upon approval by the executive board members

    4. Shall fill the vacancies in the office with the approval of the members.

Section B: The Vice President

    1. Shall preside over organization meetings in the absence of the President

    2. Shall serve as liaison to all the committees

    4. Shall be responsible for constitutional updating and revision 

    3. Shall perform other duties as directed by the President        

Section C: Treasurer shall be tasked with:

    1. Preparing the organizational budget

    2. Preparing the fee requests for Student Government Association

    3. Auditing the books of account twice annually

    4. Informing the executive board of the financial status and matters of the organization

    5. Coordinating resource mobilization activities

    6. Reporting on all receipts and disbursements

    7. Performing other duties directed by the Board and the President

Section D: The Secretary, shall:

              1. Keep record of all minutes of the organization meetings

    2. Send minutes to all appropriate members and institutional staff

              3. Prepare agenda for meetings

               4. Maintain a calendar of events and keep the members informed

    5. Keep a phone and email database for all the members

               6. Reserve meeting rooms

             7. Gather and put in record, all the historical information relevant to the RSO

              8. Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Section E: The Advisor

              1. Shall assist the organization in executing their roles and responsibilities

            2. Shall append signatures to all the necessary paperwork, forms, and spending sheets

              3. Shall provide feedback to the organization on its operation and functioning

             4. Shall advise on various issues as requested by sharing knowledge and expertise

              5. Shall not vote in any forum of the organization
